Research: How was research incorporated into the doc? Are their claims supported with evidence or expert testimony?
The student uses historical research of a certain time period in which may have influenced the film, Heather, and then show this influence in the story of the film. She uses specific events that were significant in women’s progress such as the Feminist Movement, she also uses the key ideas that was introduced at the time and explain how the are incorporated in the movie, such as the idea of a women not needing a man, and using the example of Heather leaving her male partner.
Visuals: How well do the visuals of the project support the intended narrative?
The student uses great visuals of well known movies, such as Mean Girls and Heathers. The scene chosen also really compliment her voiceover in the beginning when Regina George makes a rude remark to one of the girls and the next shot with Heather planning to bully another girl. This makes it clear that these movies are several years apart, however media still has this visible trend, and girls are constantly having to break this mold.
Language: How was appropriate film language used in the analysis? Are they critically discussing filmic techniques as part of the doc?
This is one area that could have been worked on. The student addressed mise en scene, however does not go in depths in other scenes. The analysis of the film was great but did little to incorporate film language. Student could have gave more detail when talking about film techniques.

Hey Zoe! For the content basis of your documentary, I found it very interesting and your choice of films was quite spot on! You can clearly see the similarities and how they relate to one another. I liked how you incorporated analysis of physical boundaries within the visuals, such as the body of Heather physically showing the division between Veronica and JD, and the example of conforming to one image between all the Heathers while playing croquet. When it came to applying visuals however, there were a few blank spaces where they were quite necessary, and acted as a distractor from your content. Another part that was rather detracting while watch was the stuttering and laughing that occurred as the documentary progressed, it made it rather difficult to follow your points and keep a professional air. The content of the piece was very nice, it was simply the other factors acted as distractions from effectively getting your point across.

Visuals: Chose really good visuals for the documentary. I liked how it included comparisons of ongoing themes between two films even thought they were years apart.
Language: I thought you articulated well with most scenes, but others were somewhat short. I'm sure you could have gone more in depth with more time.
Narrator's Delivery: The narrator spoke well and had clear knowledge of what she was talking about. She kept a mostly professional tone and spoke her view well.
